Veterans Day is on Wednesday, November 11th this year
The Complete Power Wash staff members say “thank you” to all of the military veterans who have and are serving the United States of America.
Did You Know: Originally, Veterans Day was called “Armistice Day.” The holiday was created to commemorate the signing of the armistice with Germany that ended the first World War. The focus of Armistice Day was on the veterans of that war. Soon after, it evolved to honor those who risked their lives on
the battlefield to secure American’s freedom.
During the holiday’s inception, Congress also made November 11th a day of prayer and thanksgiving. Finally, in 1938, Armistice Day became a permanent, official public holiday. Over time, with the passing away of the World War I generation, the focus on the 1918 Armistice was lost and the name of the holiday was changed.
“The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.” — G.K. Chesterton
November is Energy Awareness Month
The CPW staff members care about clean homes AND energy-efficient homes. November is the month to make sure your home is clean and ready to keep energy costs in check during the winter months.
This is a great time of year to take an “energy inventory” around your home and in your life. Using energy wisely makes sense for the planet and for your monthly budget. Turning out lights in unoccupied rooms and keeping the thermostat at a comfortable temperature is a good start. You can go as far as closing down vents and closing doors to unoccupied rooms. Make sure rooms with pipes have enough heat, because you don’t want to pay a plumber MORE than what you didn’t have to pay for in heating costs.
Another easy change is replacing traditional light bulbs with LED bulbs. Larger home upgrades like energy-saving appliances — including a new furnace or heat pump — along with new windows can save enough money to pay for themselves in the long run. Here is a great article on the top 13 way to save energy this winter and beyond.
And while you’re making these practical upgrades, contact the Complete Power Wash office in Hagerstown, MD to schedule a cleaning of your home’s exterior before the holiday guests arrive.
